Certificate of Mastery

This is the class of 2004 enjoying the Santa Cruz Boardwalk. They were awarded this party day because they earned their Merit Badges! Way to go!!!!

Your senior year is important. We know that, and we would like to help ensure that all your hard work from the previous three years in the Health and Human Services Academy is measured and awarded!

It’s one thing to get a diploma, but employers and universities also want to know what skills you’ve gained while you’ve been working in your various disciplines: English, math, ROP, science, history, etc.

You will begin earning Merit Badges in your sophomore year of the Academy. As you learn new skills, your teachers will award Merit Badges as proof of your “excellence” and “employability”. Each Merit Badge is aligned with your class state standards too.

During your senior year, these symbols of merit will be summarized on your Certificate of Mastery —a document of which you will be proud.

Owning one of these will give you a significant advantage over other students who will compete for the same jobs and universities you do. It will document your skills, your strengths and will show exactly what you can offer.

Businesses and educators alike understand the importance of the following skills:

• How you use resources – time, money, materials, space, and staff.
• How you use information – data, organizing and maintaining files, interpretation and communication, and using computers to process information
• How you understand systems – social, organizational, technological. Can you monitor and correct performance, design and/or improve systems?
• How well you use technology – equipment selection, applications of technology to certain tasks, and maintenance and ability to troubleshoot equipment.
• Your personal qualities – self-management, integrity, individual responsibility, and sociability.
• Your interpersonal skills – how you work on teams, teach others, lead, negotiate, serve customers, and work with people from other cultural backgrounds.
