Mr. Ashby was born May 12th, 1976 in Long Beach, California and grew up in Huntington Beach, California. In 1994, the day before his high school graduation, he got into a horrible rock climbing accident. This left him paralyzed from the chest down. After recovering from that accident, Mr. Ashby enrolled at CSU Long Beach then transferred into UC Santa Cruz with a major in Fine Art while focusing on Environmental Science. He received his B.A. degree in 2000 with a focus on Natural Scientific Illustration. Mr. Ashby began his teaching career at Alisal High School in 2004. Mr. Ashby teaches United States History and Advanced Placement U.S. History. Other responsibilities that he holds at Alisal are Co-coordinator of the Health Academy, and Class of 2010 Advisor. Mr. Ashby lives in Aptos, California, along with his wife Jennifer and their twins Ferron and Berkeley. |

In 2002, after an exciting life of sailing, surfing, fishing, and Hawaiian canoe racing, Mr. Cooney came to teach at Alisal High. His previous teaching experience includes stints at CSU Long Beach, Seabury Hall, Ho Maka Hou, and
Kekaulike
High School on Maui. He returns to the Academy where he spent three years teaching Sophomore English. He will teach the HA seniors this year. He has a B.A and M.A. (English) from CSU-Long Beach, and a teaching Credential from the University of Hawaii at Manoa (K-12 English). |
